Obituary for J. Wilmont "Wil" Thomson Jr.

J. Wilmont "Wil"  Thomson Jr.
J. Wilmot Thomson, Jr., 92, of Starkville, went to be with the Lord on Friday April 11, 2014.

He was born August 5, 1921 in Crystal Springs, MS and grew up in Hazlehurst, MS. In 1942, he graduated from Mississippi State University and joined the Navy soon after serving throughout World War II from 1942-1946. After the war, he resigned as Lieutenant and then pursued a law degree at the University of Virginia. After graduating in 1948, he started practicing law in Starkville.

Wil met and married Peggy Morrison on December 16, 1950. They were married for 63 years. He served the city of Starkville as mayor from 1961-1965 and his church as a lifelong member and Elder Emeritus of First Presbyterian Church of Starkville. He is survived by his wife, 3 children (son Joe and wife Anne, daughter Fancy and husband Ernie George, and son Jim and wife Janet), 5 grandchildren (Andrew George and wife Stacey, Katie George Iglay and husband Ray, Neal Thomson and wife Grace, and Jim and Rob Thomson), and 4 great grandchildren (Drew and Katie Clay George, Luke and Maggie Iglay).

Visitation will be held Sunday April 13, 2014 2:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Starkville followed by his funeral at 4:00 p.m. and a family graveside service thereafter. Memorial donations may be made to French Camp Academy or Palmer Home.
