Obituary for William "Billy" Earl Hall

William "Billy" Earl  Hall
William (Billy) Earl Hall, 87 passed away at his home in Lansing, Michigan on October 4, 2006. William Hall was born in Martensville, Mississippi on October 9, 1918 to the late Edward Earl Hall and Hattie Moody Hall. Mr. Hall was married to the former Frances Upchurch at First Baptist Church in Starkville.

Mr. Hall served four years in the U.S. Army during World War II and separated with the rank of Sargent. He attended Mississippi State College where he graduated with special honors from the School of Agriculture in 1947. He continued his studies at Mississippi State earning a Master of Science degree in Agricultural Economics in 1951. He worked for the Mississippi Extension Service from 1947 to 1949. He was then employed by the Farmers Home Administration from 1951 to 1954 serving as Assistant County Agent in several Mississippi counties. From 1954 to 1984 he was employed with the U.S. Soil Conservation Service, serving in Temple, TX; Jackson, TN and Lansing, MI. He retired from federal service 1984 with 39 years of service. After retirement he was very instrumental in assisting the city of Lansing in starting their “Grow Your Own Garden” project. He had many fulfilling years in teaching and helping young couples grow their own garden and he won several awards from the city in doing so.

He was survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Frances Upchurch Hall of Lansing, Michigan. Surviving Mr. Hall are his nieces Anita Hall Baroni (Mario) of Natchez and Harriet Hall Imrey of Chicago, IL; and a nephew, Dr. Charles Hall (Sylvia) of Jackson. Also surviving Mr. Hall are nieces Mary Ann Brooks Livingston (Wayne) of Starkville, nephews Jimmie Brooks (Linda) of Pearl and Bobby Brooks (Pam) of Couch, Missouri. Several great nieces and nephews also survive him. In addition to his parents, a brother, Edward Moody Hall of Belzoni, sisters Ernestine Lupo and Mary Frances Goss of Belzoni and Sue McClain of Grenada, preceded him in death.

He was a member of South Baptist Church in Lansing, MI.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, July 6, 2014 at the Oddfellows Cemetery on University Drive in Starkville. Welch Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
