Mrs. Dixie Sue Mullins Clark passed away at Oktibbeha County Hospital on Saturday, July 12, 2014. Visitation will be held at Emmanuel Baptist Church from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2014. Funeral services will be held at Emmanuel Baptist Church on Sunday, July 20, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Oddfellows Cemetery of Macon, MS.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dan Dewey Mullins and Mae Prewitt Mullins of Sidon, MS, sister, Dorothy Mullins of Greenwood, MS, and husband, Dr. James “Nap” Varner Clark of Starkville, MS. Dixie is survived by her two daughters, Susan Clark Karr and grandson, Colson Grant Karr, and Stephanie Clark Preston and husband, Brian James Preston, all of Atlanta, GA.

Dixie was born on August 22, 1947, at Leflore County Hospital in Greenwood, MS. She graduated with honors and was Salutatorian of her class at Leflore County High School. She attended Delta State University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Music Education in Piano and Voice under the professorship of Donna McHenry and Nell Wynn.

Dixie received a Master's of Music Education from Mississippi State University under the direction of Dr. Gerry Collins. Her graduate piano recital featured works of Scarlatti, Haydn and Chopin.

Dixie was a gifted accompanist and served as pianist for Emmanuel Baptist Church and Grace Christian Fellowship. Throughout her life, she worked with summer youth camps most notably Ikthoos Camp founded by her husband, Nap. Her role at Ikthoos was to help students discover and use their talents in a fun manner to glorify Jesus Christ through vocal, piano, and drama. The latter is also true for her professional studio, Dixie M. Clark Music Studio, where she taught piano and voice in Starkville, MS, for forty years. She had many outstanding students who have won alternates and gold medals in competitions sponsored by Mississippi Music Teachers Association (MMTA). The Studio emphasized the students’ performance which resulted in many superior awards in Mississippi Junior Federated Festival. The Dixie M. Clark Music Studio has also boasted many winners of music camp scholarships including Mississippi College Music Camp and the Piano Discovery Camp at the University of Mississippi including recipients, Joy Carino (2013) and Lori Jeffries (2014), both of Starkville, MS.

• Golden Triangle Music Forum Memorial Scholarship Fund created in memory of Dixie M. Clark
