Gary Thomas West
Funeral services for Gary Thomas West will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 25, 2014, at Wake Forest Baptist Church in Sturgis. Burial will follow at Wake Forest Church Cemetery. The Revs. Bruce Latimer and Gary Jackson will officiate. Visitation will be Friday, October 24, 2014, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Welch Funeral Home in Starkville.
Mr. West died Wednesday, October 22, 2014, at Baptist Memorial Hospital. He was 67.
A native of Sturgis, he was born August 27, 1947. He was a pipefitter with local 714 and retired from Eka Chemical in Columbus, Mississippi. He was a devoted husband, father and brother. He loved hunting, fishing, racing, motorcycle riding and socializing with his many friends. He never met a stranger.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Phyllis Dianne Fulgham West of Sturgis; a daughter, Misty Diane West of Sturgis; three brothers, Tom West of Longview, Texas, Ronnie R. Makamson (Amy), John C. Makamson (Jackie), and a sister, Karon D. Makamson all of Sturgis. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother, Florine Higgs Makamson, step-father Obie R. Makamson and his father William V. West.
