Obituary for Robert Betts Ray

Robert Betts Ray, 70, passed away on January 5, 2015 at Veteran's Hospital in Jackson, MS. He was a surveyor for A. L. Goodman Engineering and a member of Big Creek Methodist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Vietnam, where he received the National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/2 Bronze Service Stars, the Sharpshooter (Rifle), and the Combat Infantryman Badge. He loved birds, animals, and plants.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George Quin Ray and Anna Bell Clarity Ray.

He is survived by his daughter, Chan Monroe of Louisville, MS; sons, Shawn Ray (Bridgette) of Ackerman, MS, Garrett Ray (Heather) of Ackerman, MS, Robbie Monroe of Pontotoc, MS; sister, Ann Walsh; brother, William Ray; and seven grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, January 8, 2015 from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at Big Creek Methodist Church in Sturgis, MS, with the funeral service immediately following. Burial will be in Big Creek Methodist Church Cemetery.
