Avy (Iris)  Edith Bryant  Castles
Avy Iris Edith Bryant Castles, 93, passed away on February 26, 2015 at her residence in Starkville, MS. She was a lifetime award recipient of First Presbyterian Church in Starkville, where she was also a circle chairman and development leader of Women of the Church. She was past president of the Oktibbeha County Home Extension Council, past Matron with Order of the Eastern Star (Elizabeth Chapter #73) in Starkville, past president of the Sessums Woman's Club, member of the Sessums Community Club, 4-H leader of Sessums Community. She was an avid reader and gardner, loved to paint, loved working on family geneaology and loved raising her children. She was recognized through the Extension Service for designing an efficient kitchen. She served in the Waves during WW II. She served with Dayton Decoders that worked on the parts for the Enigma Machine.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carson Castles, Sr.; two grandchildren; two brothers; and a sister

Mrs. Castles is survived by her daughter, Peggy Castles Groves and husband, William of Pass Christian, MS; sons, Frank C. Castles and wife Relda of Saltillo, MS, Hugh D. Castles and wife, Rosa of Madison, MS, and David C. Castles and wife, Debbie of Tupelo, MS; brother, George E. Bryant of Magalia, CA; 11 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.

Visitation for Mrs. Castles is scheduled for Tuesday, March 3, 2015 from 12:00-1:45 at First Presbyterian Church in Starkville with the service following at 2:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary. Dr. Martin Lifer will conduct the service. Burial will be in Memorial Garden Park Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo, MS.
