Obituary for Dr. Donald Oliver Hill

 Dr. Donald Oliver  Hill
Donald Oliver Hill, age 76, passed away on February 27, 2015. He was born on October 20, 1938 in Birmingham, Alabama. He married Caroline Keller in December, 1959. Don graduated from Auburn University in Chemical Engineering in 1961. He was immediately activated into the U.S. Air Force, serving in Dreaux, France during the Berlin Crisis. Upon returning to the States, he worked as process engineer for the 3M Company in Decatur, Alabama. In 1968 he continued his education at the University of Alabama, receiving his MS and PhD. He became an Environmental Engineering Professor at Mississippi State University and retired after serving as Director of the Swalm School of Chemical Engineering in 2002.

He was an active member of the Starkville Church of Christ where he taught classes and served as deacon for many years.

Don is preceded in death by his parents, James and Gertrude Hill and his brother, James. He is survived by his wife Caroline; his brother Jack; son William Hill of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and daughter Jamie Klee of Swaziland, Africa and their spouses, Leigh Hill and Mark Klee; and grandchildren, Niki and Greg Hopkins, Keller and Mark Wilson, Caroline Ruth Hill, Austin Klee, Suzannah Hill, Bailey Klee, Olivia Hill, Cameron Klee, and James Hill.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 from 1-2 p.m. at Welch Funeral Home with the funeral service immediately following in the chapel of Welch Funeral Home conducted by Andy Miller. Burial will follow in Memorial Garden Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Starkville Church of Christ, Heart for Africa, Presbyterian Home for Children or Mississippi State University Foundation.
