Obituary for Bolan Massengale Overstreet

Bolan Massengale Overstreet, 92, of Starkville, Mississippi, passed away in his home Saturday, August 15, 2015. A graveside service will be held at Odd Fellows Cemetery on Monday, August 17, 2015, at 10:00 a.m.


He was born in Clarksburg, Mississippi, on May 8, 1923, to the late John W. Overstreet and Eula Mae Overstreet of Starkville, Mississippi. He served as quarterback of the Starkville Yellow Jackets in 1940, the year they were State Champions. He graduated from Mississippi State University. He served with the Army Air Corp during WWII in the Pacific. As a career, Mr. Overstreet worked as a manager in the commercial laundry business for many years.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca Gartin Overstreet,; his brother, Dr. John William Overstreet, Jr.

Survivors include his son, Dr. Raymond Overstreet and wife(Karen) of Columbus, Mississippi; his daughter, Cathy Stanford and husband(Mark) of Plano, Texas; his sister, Susie Elizabeth Overstreet of Starkville; his grandchildren, Brian Stanford, Wade Overstreet, Rebecca Mattern, Kane Overstreet and Blair Overstreet. Mr. Overstreet had seven great-grandchildren Reese Overstreet, Owen Overstreet, Camp Overstreet, Dayton Mattern, Paxton Overstreet, Becket Mattern and Sam Overstreet . He was graciously cared for by Linda Harris, beloved friend and his very special buddy Giles Jones.
