Obituary for Carl L. Carrithers, Jr.

Carl L. Carrithers, Jr., 64, passed away on August 16, 2015 at his residence in Maben, MS. He was retired from the Starkville Police Dept., where he served for 10 years. He was also in law enforcement for a total of 37 years where he served with Mississippi State, Webster County Sherriff's Dept., and the Eupora Police Dept. He was a member of Longview Baptist Church. Carl was also owner of Carrither's Upholstery, a pilot and loved the outdoors.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Etoyle Carrithers; infant son, Jackie Carrithers; and infant brother, James Burton Carrithers.

He is survived by his wife, Kate Phelps Carrithers of Maben, MS; daughter, Elizabeth Carrithers of Mathiston, MS; sons, Scott Carrithers (Kristee) of Maben, MS, Shank Phelps (Mitzi) of Maben, MS, Tommy Phelps (Leigh Ann) of Mathiston, MS, and Steven Phelps (Stephanie) of Starkville, MS; sisters, Judy McDougall (Richard) of Hurley, MS, and Janet Carrithers of Kilmichael, MS; brother, George Carrithers (Debbie) of Starkville, MS; and grandchildren, Mallory, Carson, and Riley Carrithers, Cole, Claire, Candis, Carley, Garrett, and Mattie Phelps, and Jordan & Mattee McCain.

He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, August 18, 2015 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Welch Funeral Home in Starkville, MS. The funeral service is scheduled for Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Welch Funeral Home Chapel in Starkville. Rev. Melvin Mordecai, Rev. Terry Rhodes, & Rev. Tommy Temple will conduct the service. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Eupora, MS.

Pallbearers are as follows: George Simmons, Cole Phelps, William Durr, Shawn Word, Doug Bishop, and David Morelan.

Honorary Pallbearers are as follows: Charles Clanton, Joe Morgan, Wayne Morelan, William Morelan, Donald O'Brian, and Steve Gladney.
