Obituary for Jean Freeman Collins

Jean  Freeman Collins
Jean Freeman Collins, 85, passed away to be with her Lord on January 15, 2016 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, MS. She was born in Laurel, MS on March 12, 1930 to Edward and Nettie Freeman. She was a graduate of Laurel High School and Jones County Jr. College. In her early married life, she worked as a secretary and helped put her husband through graduate school. After the birth of her sons, she devoted herself to being a wife, mother and homemaker. Mrs. Collins was an active member of First Baptist Church, Starkville and the Joy Sunday School Class. She was very devoted to her family and had a special love and attachment for her puppy, Chloe. She enjoyed visiting her friends, dining out, shopping and especially her yearly beach trip and holidays with family.

She is survived by her husband of 64+ years, Dr. James C. Collins; sons, Scott Collins of Tupelo, MS and Terry Collins (Constance) of Columbus, OH; grandchildren, Laura Stroup (Robert) of Tupelo, MS, Will Collins of Tupelo, MS, Spencer Collins of Cranston, RI and Samantha Collins of Charlotte, NC; four cousins that she considered as brothers and sisters, and other relatives and friends.

Visitation is scheduled for Monday, January 18, 2016 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Welch Funeral Home in Starkville, MS, with the funeral service immediately following in the funeral home chapel. Rev. Chip Stevens and Rev. Clifton Curtis will conduct the service. Burial will be in Memorial Garden Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Will Collins, Robert Stroup, Ed Elliott, Bill Foster, Nathan Taylor and Wayne Houston. Honorary pallbearers will be the Joy and Bain Sunday School Classes.

Memorial donations may be made to the Joy Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church in Starkville.
