Obituary for Wesley A. Ammon

Wesley A. Ammon
Wesley A. Ammon, 53, was a Bulldog to the core. He was a Vicksburg guy. Wes was a Mississippi State academic counselor whose widespread influence will forever live on in the good works of those he touched. He set kids straight for a living, and they loved him for it. Wes was a teacher—a good one—regularly lecturing to sold-out classrooms of 100 plus. (Check out ratemyprofessors.com for proof.) Wes was a man of deep faith. He was also a criticizer of every United States president and MSU coach he lived through…but he always gave credit where credit was due. Wes was blunt. Wes was kind. Wes was beloved.

Wes passed away on August 29, 2016, in Starkville, Miss. You can find him in Heaven, cruising around in a beat-up sedan— rocking shades and a cutoff State tee. He’s there, in Heaven, lingering in the upper deck of the west side at Davis Wade Stadium. Arms propped against the rail, off to the side away from the crowd, he watches his family and roots on his Dogs. His love and presence will always be felt.

He attended New Horizons Christian Fellowship and was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his father, U.T. Ammon Jr.; and mother, Geraldine Watson Ammon. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Jeannie Woodruff Ammon; sons, David (spouse Nina Tipton Ammon), Justin and Bret Ammon; and daughter, Abbie Ammon. He had one grand daughter Zoey Ammon, daughter of David and Nina. He is also survived by his brother, Ted Ammon (spouse Lorie Naef); and sisters, Cherie Ammon Steele (spouse Glenn Steele) and Susan Ammon Blades (spouse Eric Blades).

Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, September 1, 2016, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Starkville, Miss. Funeral services immediately follow at 5:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, his children suggest donations in memory of Wes be made to a charity of your choice or MSU Fellowship of Christian Athletes, 207 Gardenia Drive, Starkville, MS 39759.
