Obituary for Dora "Dody" Murphree

Dora "Dody"  Murphree
Dora Hoyle (Dody) Quinn Murphree, born July 12, 1919 in Ackerman MS, died Thursday September 1, 2016 at Hospice of West Alabama Tuscaloosa AL.

Dody married L.C. Murphree in 1936; they lived in Louisville MS until 1945, when they moved to Starkville when L.C. was appointed extension entomologist for Mississippi State University.
Dody, as she was called by friends, taught adult classes at First Baptist Churches in Louisville and Starkville for half a century.

Her hobbies included sewing, reading, baking, working in the yard and traveling. She had visited Rome, Italy; Athens and Corinth, Greece; Istanbul, Turkey; Israel, Switzerland, England, Ireland, Scotland, Holland and Hawaii.

Dody was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her fondest memories were when all the family members came home for special holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas and the times she and L.C. would travel to see the Mississippi State Baseball team play anywhere in or outside the United States.

Dody is predeceased by her husband L.C. Murphree, who died in 2001, her son David Murphree and her grandson Douglas Mutert. She is survived by her daughters Ann (Bob) Smith of Huntsville AL, Kay (Carl) Mutert of Tuscaloosa AL, and Pam (Gregg) McDaniel of Orange Beach AL. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 5, at First Baptist Church Chapel from 9:00a.m to 11:00a.m with the funeral services immediately following at 11:00a.m.
