Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Roger Smith can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Obituary for Roger Smith

Roger  Smith
Roger Smith of Starkville died on Thursday, October 6th, peacefully at home from complications of pancreatic cancer. He was born on February 10, 1969 in Clarksville, Tennessee to Norman and the late Mildred Smith. He is survived by his wife Marcy, sons Warren and Mason, father, step-mother Jinny Smith, brother Anthony Smith (Carol), and sister LaVerne Davis (Mark) and six nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother.

He has a B.S. in Computer Science from Austin Peay State University and an M.S. in Computer Science from Mississippi State University where he worked for 21 years at the High Performance Computing Collaboratory as a High Performance Computing Specialist. He was a fan of all things Mississippi State, especially baseball and was a member of the Mystic Society of the Cowbellion Bulldogs.

Serving as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Civil Air Patrol (Air Force Auxiliary) he used his talents as a photographer during air search and rescue missions. He was very proud of the work he performed during Hurricane Katrina and many other missions.

Roger also served the Boy Scouts of America as Pushmataha Area Council Commissioner while also serving as Assistant Scoutmaster and Advancement Coordinator for Troop 14 in Starkville.
Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, October 9, 2016 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at Welch Funeral Home in Starkville, MS, with the funeral service immediately following in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Garden Park Cemetery.
