Mrs. Ruth Dean Dawkins Singleton, 89, of Starkville, passed away on Monday, November 28, 2016, at Vicker's Personal Care Home in Mathiston, MS. Visitation will be Thursday, December 1, 2016 from 9:30-11:00 a.m., with the funeral service immediately following in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Clifton Curtis officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Garden Park Cemetery, Starkville, MS.

Born on April 27, 1927, Mrs. Singleton was a member of First Baptist Church in Starkville, Mississippi, and she retired in 1979, after working as a school teacher. In her retirement years she enjoyed cooking, gardening, quilting, painting, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Mrs. Singleton is survived by her son, William Scott Singleton (Carol); her grand-daughters, Amber Shultice (Wade), Haley Nixon and Erin Singleton; her grandsons, Bradley Singleton (Andrea) and Christian Singleton; great grandchildren, Madison and Kamden Shultice and Karsyn and Tate Nixon; daughter-in-law, Rachel Singleton; and sister, Mary Tallent Chaffin.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Claude Estes Singleton; son, Jeffrey Claude Singleton; her parents, William Henry and Mary Deva Froshour Dawkins; sisters, Ruby Jean Kemp and Kathrine Peterson Thomas and three brothers, Donald Hugh Dawkins, Frank Dawkins, and Fred Dawkins.

Memorials may be given to the Joy Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church in Starkville. Arrangements are under the direction of Welch Funeral Home, 201 W. Lampkin St., Starkville, MS.
