Joyce Marie Jones Sappington, 79, died Tuesday, January 24, 2017 peacefully in Zachary, LA. She was born in Pontotoc, MS on October 6, 1937 where she grew up. Sappington married the love of her life, Charles Wesley Sappington Sr. on June 18, 1955. They celebrated 61 years of marriage last summer. After living in Texas, Germany, and Florida, she settled in Starkville, Mississippi where she lived the majority of her life. Sappington spent her life raising her children, Charles Wesley Sappington Junior and Suzanne Sappington Marler. Her greatest joy was cooking, baking, knitting and sewing but most importantly, spending time with her family. She spent many hours volunteering in the community through First Baptist Church, Junior League and other organizations.

Sappington is survived by her husband, Charles Wesley Sappington Sr., her daughter, Suzanne Sappington Marler (husband, Brad Marler), her grandchildren, Ashley Marie Marler, Bradley Robert Marler, Sarabeth Elaine Sappington, and Jennifer Marie Sappington, her sister, Elizabeth Jones Jagger’s, her sisters-in-law, Willa Deen Jones and Marie Jones and many nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved.

She was preceded in death by her parents Loyd Elford Jones and Lucille Furr Jones, her son, Charles Wesley Sappington, Jr., her siblings, Leroy Jones, Audrey Kathleen Smith and Loyd Elford Jones Jr..

The celebration of her life will be held Sunday, January 29, 2017 at First Baptist Church, Starkville Mississippi. Visitation will be from 1-3pm with the funeral service immediately following. Burial will be at Oddfellows Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the special ladies that have helped care for her over the past several years. They would also like to thank Oakwood Village staff in Zachary, Louisiana for their genuine love and care they have given to Sappington.
