Obituary for David Leon Wilkerson, Sr.

David Leon Wilkerson, Sr. (Pop), 65, went home to be with the LORD Sunday, November 15, 2020, at UMMC, Jackson, MS, from complications related to Covid-19.

David was born July 19, 1955, in Isola, MS to Leon and Ruth (Pate) Wilkerson who preceded him in death. David leaves behind the love of his life of 46 years, Maude Sitton Wilkerson. David is also survived by a son, David Wilkerson, II; a daughter, Melissa (Brian) Lindner; and five grandchildren: William Zack Lindner, Mary Ainzlee Pate Lindner, Joelle Alysse Lindner, Jayden Claire Wilkerson, and David Leon (Leo) Wilkerson, III, all of Starkville, MS. Other survivors include his brother and sisters: Mark (Faye) Wilkerson, Shirley Gordon, Brenda Webb, Lola Gaye (Howard) Tatum, Janice (Ronnie) Tyler; also preceded in death by his sister, Debbie Montgomery. David leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins who he loved dearly.

Pop loved spending time with his family. His grandchildren were the apple of his eye. Along with his wife, they enjoyed creating lasting memories with their children and grandchildren. Pop enjoyed barbequing, fishing, and hunting; but most of all he loved sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He was sincere in his caring and empathizing for others and served the Lord in many ways. Ministering to young people was a passion he had, and he encouraged others to break the chains of addiction. He was proud to serve his community, church, family, and friends. He devoted his time ministering every Monday at God's House of Hope, a drug rehabilitation center located in Kilmichael, MS. David Leon Wilkerson leaves behind a great legacy and will be missed by all that loved him.

There will be an outdoor visitation on Thursday, November 19, 2020 from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at 2458 Old West Point Rd, Starkville, MS, with the service immediately following.

Memorials may be sent in honor of David Leon Wilkerson, Sr., to either God's House of Hope: 800 Schoolhouse Road, Kilmichael, MS 39747, or 3B Cowboy Church: 2160 Old West Point Road, Starkville, MS 39759.
