Davis Donothan Hartness,Sr. 88, of Starkville, Mississippi, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, February 9th, 2019, surrounded by love ones. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 12, 2019, from 5-7PM at Welch Funeral Home, 201 West Lampkin St., Starkville, MS 39759. The funeral services will be held at Welch Funeral Home on Wednesday February 13, 2019 at 2PM with Brother Dickie Bryan officiating. Visitation will also be held prior to the funeral from 1-2. Interment will be in Memorial Garden Park in Starkville.

Davis was born on September 1, 1930, in Starkville, MS to Homer Milton and Stella Mae (Andrews) Hartness. Mr. Hartness was preceded
in death by son Milton C. Hartness,brothers Felix Hartness, Eugene Hartness, Charles Hartness, Homer B.Hartness and sisters Stella Hartness Hull and Edith Ann McCoy.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years Peggy Kolb Hartness of Starkville, MS; sons Gary (Donna) Hartness, Long Beach, MS; Darryl (Tricia) Hartness, Columbus, MS;
Donny (Melba) Hartness, Marianna, AR; John (Paula) Hartness, Marianna, AR; Brenda (Tom) Brooks, Starkville, MS; Glenda (Patrick) Tranum, Sturgis MS;
Brian (Jennifer) Hartness, Starkville MS; 17 grandchildren: Jason Hartness, April Sanders, Jeffery Hartness, Gennifer Taloney, Donothan Hartness, Kelly Perkins,
Amber Pucket, Heather Eldridge, Preston Hartness, Abby Shaw, Riley Shaw, Leah Shaw, Jessica Tranum, John Tyler Tranum, Eryn Coolbaugh, Ella Brooks, and Aleck Brooks. He is also survived by 28 great-grandchildren.

Davis enjoyed gardening, farming, hunting, and riding four-wheelers on his homeplace. He lived life to the fullest and left this world on empty, leaving all of his love to his family and friends. He was a diesel mechanic and a cattle farmer. Although he dropped out of school in 10th grade to go to work, he was the greatest teacher to anyone that took the time to learn from him. His best times revolved around his sons and grandchildren coming home for the holidays to hunt. He always planted huge gardens to fill freezers for family and friends. He was a generous soul that would do anything for anybody.

Serving as pallbearers are Donothan Hartness, Macon Perkins, Dillon Perkins, Vince Tenhet, Donny Miller, and Ben Pickin. Honorary pallbearers are Wally Miles, Eugene (Pee Wee) Oswalt, Andy Kemp, David Robertson, Lamar Kolb, and Jack Rhodes.
