Dr. Franklin T.  Bonner
Dr. Franklin T. Bonner died early on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2018 at OCH Regional Medical Center.
Born in Memphis, Tennessee to George Williamson and Grace Thomson Bonner, Franklin Thomson attended Whitehaven Public Schools (1954), earned a Bachelor of Science from Louisiana State University (1958), and Masters (1960) and Doctorate (1964) degrees from Duke University.
His career with the research division of the U.S. Forest Services spanned thirty-eight years before his retirement in 1997. During these years he wrote numerous articles on the science of tree seeds culminating with the publication of The Woody Plant Seed Manual. He shared his expertise in thirty-seven sites around the world and with numerous graduate students at Mississippi State University where he was an adjunct professor.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Ann Gill Bonner, three sons and their families- Frank and Pattie Bonner of Tuscaloosa, Richard and Tacy Bonner of Kingsport, TN, and Alan and Trisha Bonner of The Woodlands, TX; grandchildren Casey and Zach Farmer of Madison; Kelly and Ross Mapes of Birmingham, AL; Gill Bonner of Hendersonville, TN; Shelby Bonner of Smyrna, TN; Kendall Bonner of Kingsport, TN; Olivia Bonner of The Woodlands, TX; Ethan Bonner of The Woodlands, TX; one great grandson James Farmer of Madison; his brother George Bonner, and wife Alves of Hickory Plains, AR, his brother-in-law Tom Gill and wife Shirley of Kiawah Island, SC, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be at First United Methodist Church on Wednesday November 28 at 3:00p.m with a visitation from 1:00p.m-3:00p.m.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church.
