Emma Lou Monroe, 85, of Starkville, MS died on March 14, 2022 at Oktibbeha County Hospital. She was born on March 1, 1937 in Philadelphia, MS to Sylvester Davidson and Emma Bell Bozeman Davidson. After living in Philadelphia for several years, her family moved to the Mississippi Delta where she met and married the love of her life, William “Pete” Monroe, on October 21, 1953. They have one daughter, Wanda Lou Calhoun of Starkville.

Mrs. Monroe worked for Garan Shirt Co, Herschede Hall Clock Company, Wevex, and Mississippi State Extension as a Plant Pathology Lab Technician. She retired from Mississippi State in 1995. She was a dedicated member of Meadowview Baptist Church for over 30 years.

Lou was a strong, courageous woman who truly loved God and her family. She was a dedicated wife and mother. She loved to fish, travel, play the piano and sing. She enjoyed playing cards, dominos, and checkers with her great-grandchildren up to the day before she passed. She was famous for her homemade birthday cakes. Those who knew her knew her laugh and keen sense of humor. She never let you leave without telling you she loved you, no matter who you were.
