Obituary for James Robert Covin

James Robert Covin

James Robert Covin of Starkville, MS passed away at the age of 82 on February 11, 2021, at his home. He was born in Aberdeen, MS to C.E. and Maxine Covin of Aberdeen, MS.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Yvonne, of Starkville; his son, Robert Covin (Elaine), of Collierville, TN; his grandson, Tyler Covin (Erin), of Sandy Springs, GA and his granddaughter, Samantha Covin, of Atlanta, GA. He is also survived by two brothers, Tom Covin of Metairie, LA and Jimmy Covin (Janie), of Starkville, as well as several nieces and nephews. Mr. Covin is preceded in death by his parents.

Known to many as Bob, Mr. Covin was a graduate of Aberdeen High School and Southern School of Printing. He was a member of the Army reserve. Bob began a career in the printing industry during high school and became partners with his brother, Jimmy, of Vaughan Printing Company in Starkville in 1968 until his retirement in 2008.
Bob was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, where he served in several administrative capacities and as a Sunday school teacher. Mr. Covin never met a stranger and enjoyed many friendships with individuals from all walks of life. For over 30 years, he enjoyed being a member of “the Supper Club”, comprised of several dear friends, whose friendships bound them together over the years. He was an active member of the Hardee’s Coffee Continuing Education group. His favorite activities included participating in corvette car shows, fishing, hunting and traveling. He also enjoyed tailgating at MSU football games and especially loved his family and grandchildren.

A private visitation for family will be held on Sunday, February 14th at Welch Funeral Home from 1:00 to 1:30 pm followed by a graveside service officiated by Rev. James Bailey at 2:00 pm for friends at Memorial Garden Park on Oktoc Road.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 820 Evergreen Street, Starkville, MS 39759. The family is especially grateful to the individuals who provided medical assistance and hospice care that Bob received throughout his illness
