Condolences

Condolence From: Kelly Murphree
Condolence: Oh how I loved Ms. Leota. I knew her for most of my life, from her teaching years to the years of her friendship with my grandmother, Mary Alice Dodson. She was always a pleasure to be around and she will be greatly missed. I know Mr. Joe welcomed her home with open arms. May God Bless you all during these difficult days.

Condolence: Several years ago I went to vote at The Hump and Mrs. Cardwell was a poll worker. She didn't recognize me at first (after all, it had been a very long time), but after I signed in and showed my ID she became excited and told the other poll workers that "this is the best student I ever had." Well, as you might anticipate, I was rather surprised by this, but my response was instantaneous and sincere: "That's because you're the best teacher I ever had." She was a wonderful human being, a great teacher and a Christian, and this world is a lesser place without her.

Condolence: David, Durenda and Rebecca, I extend to you my sincerest condolences. David, we have numerous memories together that I'm sure both your and my parents never forgot. I know I never will, and they are all life experiences that I still treasure. Durenda I sincerely appreciate the times you called and checked on my mom on behalf of your mom. I also want you to know how special it was for you to come by my mom's house and bring your mom for a visit in Augusta as well as your coming by her house to pay respects when she passed. I love all of you and am thinking of ya'll during this time. The whole Cardwell family has a special place in my heart.

Condolence: The family of Leota: Having lived in Starkville for 40+ years, we are well aware of Miss Leota's involvement in the community, both in service and living by example. She was a treasured friend. Blessings as you grieve the loss of a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whom you will miss greatly, but celebrate a life well lived who is now with the Savior. Condolence: Growing up across the street from the Cardwell's home, I spent almost as much time there as at my own home playing with my best friend, Durenda. Mrs. Cardwell (even at my age, I have a hard time calling her Leota!) always treated me as a member of the family. What I remember most about her is her singing hymns as she went about her tasks. She will be a welcome addition to the Heavenly Choir.

Condolence: Starkville Public Schools were blessed to have many teachers who not only had a passion for education, but a passion for their students as well. Mrs. Cardwell is at the top of the "Great Educators" list!'' She taught me and many others a lot about math and a lot more about life! I know she stepped into eternity hearing a very loud "Well Done!" from our heavenly Father. We will be praying for her family and we are very thankful for the powerful legacy she leaves behind.

Condolence: I was a friend as well as a teacher on my staff at Henderson Intermediate School. Leota gave so much to so many. I know you children were proud of your mother, and you should be. Due to my limited physical movement now, I won't be able to attend visitation or the service.

Condolence: David, Durenda, and Rebecca, I am so sorry for your loss of your precious mom. She was like a second mom to me when I moved back to Starkville. She loved her family dearly and you were always here for her when she needed you, especially during the past few years as her health deteriorated. Our parents were long time friends and they were wonderful role models for us. May God grant you peace, strength and comfort in the days ahead. May wonderful memories sustain you and bring you joy. Love, Suzanne

Condolence: “You are the salt of the earth. ...You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." (Mt. 5:14-16) Praise be to God for the life He gave to Leota, and for the way He used her daily as salt and light to her family and community!
