Obituary for Ophelia McCormick Reed

Ophelia McCormick Reed
Funeral services for Mrs. Ophelia McCormick Reed will be held at 11:00 am Monday, December 3, 2018 at Welch Funeral Home in Starkville, Mississippi, with Rev. Blaine Allen and Rev. John Temple officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am.

Mrs. Reed, 90, of Starkville, passed away Thursday, November 29, 2018 at Montgomery Gardens.

She retired in 1991 after 27 years with the Cooperative Extension Service as the Mail and Supply Supervisor. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Learning to Lean Sunday School Class, Starkville Civic League, Magnolia Garden Club/Lunch Bunch and two Bridge Clubs. She was beautiful inside and out, loving, kind, compassionate, thoughtful, selfless, knowledgeable and generous. She could whip up a meal including cornbread and stuff your belly in no time. She could dress up in pearls and play bridge or host a party in an instant. In one word...she was PERFECT.

Mrs. Reed is survived by her daughters Myra Jourdan (Cecil) and Angie Rushing (Andrew), grandchildren Robin Michel (Buck), Christopher Jourdan (April), Patrick Davis (Haley), great grandchildren Reed Michel, Hayden Michel, Maily Jourdan, Grayson Davis, Merritt Jourdan, Finley Davis, sisters Moderia Petty, Ann Randall, Betty McIllwain, and Cathy Ishee as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and long-time friends. The family would also like to express special thanks to the staff of Montgomery Gardens and her caregivers/sitters.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Merritt Reed, sister Laurene Bright and parents Tommie and Walter McCormick.

Pallbearers will be her nephews and nephews-in-law Steve Fondren, Wil Fondren, Mike Johnson, Johnny McReynolds, Jason Peterson, and Kirk Dickerson. Staff of Montgomery Gardens and caregivers/sitters will be honorary pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to French Camp Academy or charity of your choice.
