Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Penelope (Penny) Carmichael can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Penelope (Penny) Slawson  Carmichael
Penelope (Penny) Slawson Carmichael, 58, passed away on December 18, 2018 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus, MS. Penny was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. She spent her career working for Oktibbeha County as a mapper and loved her job and the citizens she served. She had recently retired as she fought a courageous battle with cancer. She dearly loved her family and her happiest moments were spent making memories with them.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Steven Carmichael, Sr.; and her father, Paul Slawson.

She is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Jean Gibbs (Shannon) of Atlanta, GA; sons, Steven Lamar Carmichael, II (Erin) and Joshua Tuck Carmichael (Brittney), all of Starkville, MS; mother, Janie Reeves Slawson; sisters, Cindy Slawson and Amy Wehr; brothers, Tom Slawson and Kenneth Slawson; and five grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled for Friday, December 21, 2018 from 9:00-10:00 a.m. at New Hope Baptist Church, with the graveside services immediately following in the church cemetery. Rev. Bill Murphy will conduct the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, TN.
