Richard was born on May 31st, 1939 in Calera, Ala. to the Late Gordon and Louise Howell. He went to be with the Lord on November 23rd at the Sanctuary Hospice Home in Tupelo, Ms.
His family moved to Oktibbeha Co. when was about 8 years old. They lived in the Bell School House Community on a dairy farm. Richard was a Starkville High School graduate. He served 2 years in the U.S. Army. Upon returning home from the Army he resumed his job at Rice’s Garage, which eventually became Rice Equipment Co. and the John Deere dealership for this area. He retired from there after 29 years. He returned to work at Howard Manufacturing Co. in Starkville, Ms. They became Flexsteel Industries. He retired from there in 2006. He then served as a bailiff for the remaining thirteen years of his life. His passion was working on small engine’s of any kind in his own little shop. He was called Mr. Fixit, because there was not many things he could not fix. He loved working with wood and making items for his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Louise Howell and one brother, Larry Howell.
He is survived by his wife Grace Blanton Howell of 55 years of marriage, Starkville. Children, Renee Clark Starkville, Barbara Howell Starkville, and Dennis Howell(Lara) of Starkville.
Grand Children Crystal Clark Craven Starkville, Rickale Clark Tupelo Ms., Matthew Howell Starkville and Carmen Howell of Mathiston, Ms.
Great- grand Children-Crystin Craven Starkville, Nehemiah and Noah Cofer of Tupelo, Ms.
His sibings, all of Starkville, Peggy Raines, Robert Howell (Ruby), Johnny Howell, Jerry Howell (Vicki), Wade Howell and Susan Wolf, many nieces and nephews, and many friends.
Funeral arrangements will be through Welch Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Nov 25, 2019 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM, with the funeral service at 2:00 PM on November 26 at the Welch Funeral Home Chapel , with burial following at Oktibbeha Memorial Garden Park Cemetery.
Service will be conducted by Bro. Dickie Bryan.
Pallbearers will be Robert Howell, Johnny Howell, Wade Howell, Jerry Howell, Jimbo Raines, Robert Elmore, Jerry Ray, and Matthew Howell.
