Sallie Mae Oglesby
On Monday, March 8, 2021, Sallie Mae Scarbrough Oglesby, loving wife, mother, and granny, passed away at the age of 80. She was born July 21, 1940 in Ocala, FL.
She was a graduate of Sturgis High School. She was a believer in Christ, and an active member of Friendship Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school and nursery until 2018. On December 23, 1961 she married the love of her life, Lavern Oglesby. God blessed them with 59 years of marriage. Lavern didn’t plan on any children, but Sallie planned on three; Jackie Nason (Buster), Benny Oglesby (Dawn) and Marie McClendon, all of Sturgis. The blessings didn’t stop there. They also have 10 grandchildren, Tri Nason (Brittany), Whitney Crocker (Josh), Ben Oglesby, Hope Oglesby, Lane and Tori McClendon, Cia Straton (Tyler), Trace Kinard (Reagan), Tyler Fulgham, and Darian Dempsey (Sam). The blessings kept coming with 14 beautiful great-grand children. Sallie worked in retail for many years. She was Owner of L & S Grocery, seamstress her whole life sewing purses and boat seats. But what made her smile was keeping children. Well over 60 kids were loved and cared for and was mentored in self-respect, good morals, and loving JESUS. She retired to keep her grandchildren. She was never one to be in the public eye, but one day while keeping grandchildren a deer decided to jump through the window and get into the shower; she just closed the door and continued caring for all the kids. The next few days, news traveled fast through Sturgis CW on WFCA former Senator Gary Jackson sang Grandma got run Over by a reindeer .The next day she made Starkville Daily News. By the weekend she was on WCBI News, (This Granny didn’t get run over by a Reindeer. She loved attending her grand kids games and watching MSU football.

Sallie loved her family. She was survived by Billy Scarbrough (Regina), Charles Scarbrough (Diane) both of Starkville; and one sweet sister, Irene Ray of Sturgis.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Lodean Scarbrough; brothers, Johnny Scarough (Sandra), Wylie Scarbrough ( Pat), a baby brother and a little sister Sylvia Jean; and brother in law, Elbert Ray.
