Obituary for Walter Bryan

Walter Bryan passed away on November 19, 2021 at Merit Health River Oaks in Flowood, MS. He was born to the late E.P. Bryan Jr. and Opal Evertie Bryan on November 2nd, 1941 in Honolulu, Hawaii. He attended Andrew Lewis High School in Salem, Virginia and was a U.S. Army Veteran. He retired from the Kansas City Southern Railroad after 30 years.

As an outdoorsman, Walter enjoyed hunting for many years at the Simmons Hunting Camp in Kemper County. Most recently, he made countless memories with friends and family at the Bryan Brothers’ Camp in Sallis, Mississippi. He was a member of the Starkville First United Methodist Church, an enthusiastic Nascar fan, a Bulldog Club Member and an avid supporter of Mississippi State Bulldog sports. But of all his interests and activities, the role he loved best was being Papa to his grandchildren. He took this role seriously and extended his love and support to many other MSU students along the way. He could often be found at Starkville Café enjoying their famous blue plate specials.

Walter was survived by his sister, Marguerite Windley (Neal); his three sons: Walter “Nap” Bryan (Kathy), Chris W. Bryan (Shanen), Jamie C. Bryan (Kimberly); seven grandchildren: Ashley Sheffer (Jared), Chris W.
