Robert L. "Bo"  Haynes
Robert Louis “Bo” Haynes, Ph.D., Professor Emeritus of Poultry Science at Mississippi State University passed away February 23, 2015. He was 84.

Services will be at 11 a.m., Friday, February 27 at First Baptist Church, Starkville, MS, with visitation at 9:30 at the church prior to the service. Burial will be in the Ingomar cemetery in Ingomar, MS at 3:30 P.M. on Friday, February 27. Welch Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Bo was born December 5, 1930, in Ingomar, MS, the oldest child of Robert Ernest Haynes and Mamie Sue Butts Haynes. He graduated from Ingomar High School, attended Northeast Community College, and received his B.S., Masters and Ph.D. degrees from Mississippi State University. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict. He was chosen Airman of the Year while serving on Iwo Jima, and he was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Before his tenure at MSU, he was employed by Mississippi Federated Cooperative.

At MSU Bo served as Leader, Extension Poultry, and Professor of Poultry Science. Before his retirement, he was a member of Sigma Xi, and a member and past president of Epsilon Sigma Phi and Gamma Sigma Delta. He served as president of the Board of Directors of the Mississippi Egg Marketing Board, and he served on the Board of Directors of the Mississippi Poultry Association and on the State Board of Animal Health. He also served on the MSU Faculty Council.

Bo’s great interest as a poultry man was with game birds. He was a co-founder of the Mississippi Game Bird Association where he served as Executive Secretary for many years. He was a member of the Advisory Board for Diseases and on the Board of Directors for the North American Game Bird Association. He was the author of numerous research, Extension and journal publications.

Bo was active in his community. He was a past District Chairman of the American Heart Association, and he was a past member of the Community Bank Board of BancorpSouth. He was a long-time member and past president of the Starkville Rotary Club where he was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a member of First Baptist Church and the Baine Sunday School Class.

He is survived by his wife, Carmen Caldwell Haynes whom he married October 25, 1953, two sons, Randy Haynes (Tammye), and Jack Haynes (Myra), three grandchildren, Haley Rose Early (Todd), Lyndsey Lyle Stillman (Seth), and Robert Doss Haynes, and one great grandchild, Payton Rose Early. Other survivors include brothers Tom Haynes (Betty) of Ingomar, Herb Haynes (Sheera) of Brandon, sisters Ann Adair of Ingomar and Bonnie Auld (Duane) of Germantown, sister-in-law, Patricia Haynes of Ingomar, five nieces and three nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Roy Earl Haynes.
