Samuel Trizzie  Polk, Jr.
Samuel Trizzie Polk, Jr., 95, passed away at The Bee Hive Assisted Living Home on November 5, 2015. Visitation will be held at 11:30 AM on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection in Starkville. The funeral service will begin at 12:30 PM at the church with burial immediately following at Oddfellows Cemetery in Starkville. The Reverend Lee Winter will preside at the services.

Mr. Polk was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Jane Bell Polk. Survivors include two sons, Samuel T. Polk III of Brandon and Carlton Polk and wife Hellen, and one grandson, John Parker Davis and wife Catherine Ann, all of Starkville.

The son of the late Mr. and Samuel T. Polk, Sr. of Starkville, Mr. Polk was born on October 10, 1920, in Foochow, China. His family returned to Starkville, where he spent his childhood. He was member of Starkville’s Boy Scout Troop 14 and attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He graduated from Gulf Coast Military Academy in Gulfport, and then studied for two years at Mississippi State College where he was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity.

A veteran of World War II, Mr. Polk served in the 104th Infantry, Timberwolf Division in military intelligence. He reached the rank of captain and was awarded the American Campaign Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater of Operations Medal with one battle star for his service in the Rhineland, and the WWII Victory Medal.

After the war he returned to Starkville and completed his BS degree in Mechanical Engineering at Mississippi State. He was a registered professional mechanical engineer in Mississippi and Louisiana. Mr. Polk was in technical sales of heating air-conditioning and ventilation equipment. He was an active member of the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection.

Welch Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection Building Fund or a charity of your choice.
