Obituary for Jerry Clifton Hunt

Jerry Clifton  Hunt
Jerry Clifton Hunt, age 90, passed away on November 5, 2018 in Starkville, MS. He was born in Choctaw County to Sherman Eldon and Mary Busby Hunt. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in the Korean War and was awarded the Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars and the United Nations Service Medal. He married his beloved bride Audie Bell Martin in Webster County on April 12, 1952. Jerry graduated from Jones Junior College with a degree in Horology and was a certified master watchmaker. In 1961, he and Audie opened Hunt’s Jewelry in the Southdale Shopping Center where he was both a jeweler and watchmaker until they retired in 1993 when their son Kent assumed ownership. From 1978 until 1993, they co-owned West Point Jewelry in West Point, MS along with their son Mark. Throughout his life, Jerry was also a carpenter having built his business and two of his homes as well as having been instrumental in constructing his sons’ homes. Jerry truly loved the Lord and made his profession of faith at an early age. He was a member of First Baptist Church and enjoyed being a part of the Johnston Community Group. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening, raising cattle on “The Farm” in rural Oktibbeha County, and watching MSU sports. A loving husband, father, and grandfather, he will be remembered for his deep and abiding faith, his gentle disposition, and his ability to always look on the bright side.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son Kent Gordon Hunt, a sister Genece Hunt Nowell, and brothers Eldon Duain Hunt and James William Hunt.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Audie, son Mark Clifton Hunt (Rene) of Starkville, daughter-in-law Beverly Hunt of Starkville, grandsons Davis Martin Hunt (Megan) of Byhalia, Gordon Marcus Hunt of Starkville, and Garrett Kent Hunt (Hannah) of Columbus, a brother George Boyd Hunt (Marjorie) of West Point, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Wednesday, November 7th, from 5 to 7 PM at Welch Funeral Home. Services will be Thursday, November 8th, at 2:00 PM from First Baptist Church with visitation 1 hour prior to the service. Brother Chip Stevens will officiate. Interment will be in Memorial Gardens Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 106 East Lampkin Street, Starkville, MS or to the charity of choice.
