Obituary for Marjorie Ruth Simmons Blocker


Marjorie Ruth Simmons Blocker died peacefully at her home on September 2, 2018. She was 95. A private family memorial service for Mrs.Blocker will be held at Oktibbeha Memorial Gardens.

A native of Atlanta, Georgia, she received her college degree in English from Georgia State University. She was a pianist with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and an employee of Delta Airlines Engineering Department.

After her marriage in 1949, she moved to the Oktoc Community near Starkville, Mississippi. She was actively involved in the First Presbyterian Church of Starkville, the Oktoc Garden Club, the Oktoc Community Club, the Mississippi Cowbells organization, local civic clubs, and all of her children’s activities – serving in leadership roles.

Her husband, Fred Adrian Blocker, predeceased her in 2012. Survivors include a son, Larry Simmons Blocker (Starkville), daughter Anna Marie Blocker Rasberry and Freddie (Starkville), and son Adrian Maurice Blocker and Karen (Seattle). Grandchildren are Jennifer Mayfield, Matthew Thornton Blocker, Cole Blocker, and Clarke Blocker; and great grandsons Holt Blocker and Cotton Blocker.

Her favorite local charities were Palmer Home for Children (PO Box 746, Columbus MS 39703) or French Camp Academy (1 Fine Place, French Camp MS 39745).
