Obituary for Nancy Miller (Holland)

Nancy Miller (Holland)
Nancy Lou Holland Miller, age 87, passed away on August 24, 2018 at the Winston Medical Center Nursing Home facility in Louisville, MS. Nancy was holding the hands of both of her daughters when she left this world and went to be with the Lord. She is survived by 4 children: Beth Ann (John) Dufur, Leslie (Ross) Hammons, Andrew (Denice) Miller, William Eric Miller; 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Allan (Jane) Holland. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence Allen Holland and Anna Portas Holland and her son, Michael Robert Miller.

Services are scheduled for Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at Welch Funeral Home in Starkville, MS. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 with the memorial service following the visitation in the funeral home chapel.

Nancy H. Miller was born July 4, 1931 in York, PA. She nurtured five children with William Franklin Miller, Jr and was the glue that held our family together. During family gatherings, she was the figurehead around which the chaos of toddling great grandchildren, grandchildren, and children would churn. Despite many strong Miller personalities, she was the calming influence. From her recliner, she would dispense wisdom, stories of her childhood in PA, and her lightning fast dry wit.

She graduated from Union Memorial Hospital (Baltimore, MD) Nursing School as an RN in 1952. After seeing her youngest off to grade school, she began the final chapter of her nursing career at the Longest Student Health Center at MSU from which she retired. Nurse Nancy was a favorite nurse who always had a smile, never met a stranger, always speaking to everyone.

Nancy was generous and loved giving money to many and varied charities. Her favorites being service members and veterans’ organizations. She requested in lieu of flowers to make donations to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org or a charity/cause you believe in.
