Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Stella Baker can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Stella Hill  Baker
Stella Hill Baker died on December 3, 2019 at the age of 100. Born in 1919 in Ellisville, MS, she was the sixth of eight children of Luther and Luna Smith Hill. She and Percy Baker married in 1943, and settled in Starkville in 1948 where they raised their four children. Stella was a homemaker, an accomplished pianist, gardener and cook and an enthusiastic fan of Mississippi State sports, and the Atlanta Braves.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, Percy Jackson Baker, her son Robert (Bobby) Baker, her sister and her six brothers.

She leaves her daughters Betty (Newton) Cole of San Antonio, TX, Mary Lynn (Jimmy) Ball of Calhoun City, MS, Ann (Dean) Morrison of Madison, MS. She also leaves her grandchildren Mark (Iris) Cole of Kyle, TX, Jeffrey (Elizabeth) Cole of Leander, TX, Sharon (Craig)) Dooley of Slidell, LA, Cameron (Emily) Peyton of Cabot, AR, and Taylor (Troy) Strunk of Fairhope, AL, and ten great grandchildren.

Visitation will be at 1 p.m. followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 8, 2019 at Welch Funeral Home.

In Lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to MSU Bulldog Club, Mississippi Public Broadcasting (mpb.org), or Batson Children’s Hospital in Jackson, MS.
