Condolence: I was so sorry to hear abour Mrs. Porter's passing. She truly was a great teacher. She and Mrs. Hodges gave me a wonderful background in mathematics that I use everyday. I use what I learned from her everyday when I apply mathematics concepts to a chemistry problem God Bless.

Condolence: Bill,
So sorry to hear of Velma Rae's passing. May God give you strength to deal with what you and the children are going through. So many fond memories of Velma Rae growing up in Vicksburg.I would never made it out of 3rd grade arithmetic without her help. She would tutor me every week or so throughout that year. She had to be a very gifted teacher. Beautiful picture of her. Just as I remember.

Words tend to fail at a time like this. Please know that our prayers are that God will soon allow the many happy memories of Velma dim the pain that is so real at this time. May God grant each of you peace and rest.

Condolence: Dear Bill and family,

I was so saddened to hear of Velma's passing last week. My prayer for all of you is that God will give you peace and comfort at this difficult time. I treasure my memories of Velma as a classmate and fellow band member at Carr Central in Vicksburg. Not only was she a sweet girl, but also had brains to match her beauty! I was pleased to hear she passed her gift on to students through her teaching.

With love,
Mary Lou Fielder Cannon

Condolence: I am so saddened to hear of our loss of Velma. She was one of the prettiest and most classy girls in our high school class. She will certainly be missed and remembered. Our thoughts and prayers are certainly with Bill and his family at this time.

Condolence: To: Mr. Bill Porter & Family
From: Sid Fondren

My thoughts and prayers are with you all. I will always remember Mrs. Porter because she was always my favorite teacher. She made me grow to love math and school which math became my favorite school subject because of the special ways she had of teaching. I believe she would have made any subject she taught a joy because of the joy she took in teaching. I will always especially remember Mrs Porter posting a photo of myself on her class bulletin board where I had won a fishing rodeo and that photo was in the Starkville daily newspaper. I believe the whole school must have seen my photo on that board because I had never had so many people at school tell me how proud they were for me. That one memory still sticks with me and the self esteem and motivation she gave me from bragging on my fish was something that has stayed with me throughout life. I feel highly confident that she is with Jesus now and Heaven was just made an even better place. God Bless your family and God Bless You Mrs Porter for being such a kind hearted person.

Condolence: Bill, My heart breaks with yours and your family in the death of Velma. When I began 1st grade at Bowmar Avenue School, Velma became my first friend and we remained friends throughout the remaining years. It occurred me when I first heard of her death, that she is now holding little Marwin and her mother and dad, and brother and sister. What a joyous reunion.
Love and prayers,
Joan
