My brother Bob and I were blessed to be Mississippi State College campus brats, but the bonus blessing was living on the edge of the campus next to the "new" laundry just three or four doors from Dr. Horace H. Harned and his remarkable wife and wonderful children! Winky was Bob's age and became close friend of both of us, but we knew Horace and Arthur and I recall a talented sister, all highly intellectual and interesting. We know Dr. Harned as a revered professor and Mrs. Harned as a marvelous mother, a sharp political voice, and a valuable member of The Episcopal Church of the Resurrection. We benefitted greatly from their gracious neighborly welcome, which allowed us to catch and ride horses on the adjacent acreage, but the lasting gift of the Harned family has been keen interest in and active contributions to the political and educational strengths of our great state.
